AFG Gospel Band

AFG (All For God, All From God) was a popular gospel band in Ethiopia between 1996 and 2003. It was the first group of its kind, blending gospel and reggae music into popular acapella songs, and later adding full musical accompaniment.

AFG performed regularly in churches around Addis Ababa, particularly for special youth programs, and always had a huge turnout.  They traveled twice to Scandinavia at the invitation of the Swedish Evangelical Mission to perform in churches there. The group dissolved in 2003, and all but one member now live in the US.

The original members of AFG were all from the Entotto Mekane Yesus congregation: Motuma Sima, Shewangizaw, Benyam, Barissa, and Yonas Gorfe.  All of the original members were involved in writing the compositions and song lyrics.  In 1999 the group moved from being fully acapella and welcomed several more members: Mekonnen (drums), Gideon (keyboard), Wondowossen (bass), and  Wosene (vocalist).
