Introduction
The Medhane Alem [መድኃኔዓለም, Savior of the World] Cathedral is located in the Bole sub-city of Addis Ababa. It is the largest Orthodox church in Ethiopia and was constructed from 1924 to 1931.
Liturgical/ sacred music
As one would expect in such an important cathedral, great emphasis is placed on the quality of the liturgy and sacred music. On important church festivals, large crowds often gather in front of the cathedral to join in the singing.
