History and ministry
The name of the EOTC organization በኢትዮጵያዊው ጃንደረባ ትውልድ [Ethiopian Jandereba Generation] alludes to the Ethiopian official who became the first African Christian and brought the gospel message to his country:
ፊልጶስ ያገኘው ኢትዮጵያዊው ባለስልጣን ፥ “ተነሥቶም ሄደ። እነሆም፥ ህንደኬ የተባለች የኢትዮጵያ ንግሥት አዛዥና ጃንደረባ የነበረ በገንዘብዋም ሁሉ የሠለጠነ አንድ የኢትዮጵያ ሰው ሊሰግድ ወደ ኢየሩሳሌም መጥቶ ነበር፤” (Acts 8:27)
- The word ጃንደረባ means “chamberlain.” Since many chamberlains at royal courts were castrated, the term is often translated as “eunuch.”
The organization’s goal is to follow the example of this ancient believer and to spread the gospel through public gatherings and media.
