Quoted from https://www.MusicCenter.org:
“Ethiopian-born Kibrom Birhane grew up playing music, first learning to play the krar (a five or six-stringed lyre which features in traditional Ethiopian and Eritrean music) at the age of eight. He enrolled in the Mekane Yesus School of Jazz Music in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he received a degree in music performance in 2007. Following graduation, he spent three years teaching piano at Mekane Yesus before moving to Los Angeles in 2011 to study music production and sound engineering at the Los Angeles College of Music (LACM) in Pasadena.
As an artist, the All African Music Award-winning Birhane is passionate about Ethiopian Folk, World, Jazz, Pop, Ethio Jazz and Gospel music. In addition to writing and playing his own music, he is a prolific producer, arranger, sound engineer and radio host for Coke Studio Radio Africa.
He has recorded and performed with musicians from all over the world, including Dan Wilson, Mychael Danna, K’Naan, Ethio Cali, Wondem, Quantic, and Meklit Hadero, among others.”
In Addis Ababa, he was connected to Mekrez Youth Ministry.
