Yilma Hailu [ይልማ ኃይሉ] was born in _ _ _
He grew up in the neighborhood of the St. Urael Ethiopian Orthodox Church in Addis Ababa.
Yilma’s grandfather, Memhir Hiwot _ _ _ [father’s name?], was an excellent instructor of deggwa (ድጓ), the liturgical book of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.
As a child, Yilma attended the local church school. The lessons included solo singing. He was a young member of his local church’s staff.
Yilma Hailu moved to the US more than 20 years ago. He has been associated with Debre Mehret Kidus Michael Church (Washington, D.C.). Yilma was awarded the title of Liqe Mezemran [ሊቀ መዘምራን], which means ‘[outstanding] choir leader.’ He and his wife, _ _ _ [please add her name], who was a famous Orthodox singer, live now in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
- Their daughter, Egeziharya Yilma, is also a gospel singer (mainly using English)
