Amharic Songs of Songs (ms Bruce)

Amharic translation commissioned by James Bruce (in the Gondar area?), probably in 1770/71:

(adapted from a scan of the Bruce manuscript no. 94
at the Bodleian Library, Oxford)

Note

James Bruce did not reveal the name of the translator.

(Abba) Abraham (c. 1749/50‒1818) accompanied James Bruce on his journey to Cairo. During the last decade of his life, he translated the Bible into Amharic. It is quite possible that Abraham already played an essential role in translating Songs of Songs in the early 1770s.
