Life and ministry Manebo
Wolde Yesus Manebo [ወልደየሱስ መኔቦ (?)] was born in 1941 (1933 A.M.) and attended school in Waagabata.
In 1958, he became Abba Dominique’s coworker in Jajura. Next to his catechetical work, Wolde Yesus helped translate the missal book into Hadiyyisa.
Wolde Yesus’ daughter, Maryam, was baptised in 1964 (the first baptism in a Catholic church in Hossana).
In 1972, Wolde Yesus and many other Catholic catechists in Ethiopia received formal catechetical training in Sadaama.
In his many years of ministry, Wolde Yesus served as catechist in several Catholic congregations in the Hadiyya Zone (Jajura, Wassera, Sadaama) and one congregation in Wolaytta (Dubbo’o).
Wolde Yesus composed his first original Hadiyya song in 1966 A.M. (= 1973/74 A.D.). The French Cappuchin Priest at the station then was Father René. In previous years, Catholic songs had been translated from other languages.
- It seems that Wolde Yesus composed a Hadiyya song in a contemporary style earlier than other Catholics and earlier than Protestant solo singers (Muse’e Tasamma: 1968 A.M.; Maarqoos Tasamma: 1969 A.M.; Tamirat Haile: _ _ _ _).
In 2004, Deacon Wolde Yesus served as an assistant to the parish priest in Sadaama.
Wolde Yesus Manebo passed away in 2024.
