Background information about Anglican gospel music in Ethiopia
19th Century
Church Missionary Society workers (esp. Krapf and Isenberg) engaged in Bible translation and literature production. However, they didn’t publish an Amharic or Oromo hymnal.
20th Century until the Ethiopian Revolution
The Anglican Church in Ethiopia aimed at ministering to English speaking people in the capital.
Missionaries affiliated with St Matthew’s church (in the centre of Addis Ababa) intended to create Amharic “revival” songs resembling Orthodox hymns:

There are now dozens of Anglican congregations in Ethiopia, most of them in the Gambela Region.
