Crossing Religious / Confessional Borders

Introduction

There is a certain denominational “mobility” within the evangelical movement. These denominations make use of a similar set of gospel songs.

The Ethiopian Orthodox Church, the Catholic Church in Ethiopia, the Anglican Church, the Seventh Day Adventist Church and Oneness Pentecostals, on the other hand, have their own hymns. Of course, this also applies for other religions in Ethiopia (e.g. Islam and Judaism).

It is worth studying which musical developments occur in areas with interreligious contacts or when musicians change their confessional adherence. However, there do not seem to be many well-known musicians who have also found great recognition in their new faith community.
